Q: I have Ulcerative Colitis with lots of flare ups.?
any advice on treatment options. Anyone ever noticed a link with birth control pills or stress causing flare ups.

A: Hi Harley

Here are some ideas to heal the condition.

Quick Action Plan for Colitis

1. Avoid all sugars, refined flour products, and carbohydrates, milk and dairy products, processed foods that contain preservatives and artificial sweeteners, alcohol, hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as foods that are common allergens.

2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish.

3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day.

4. Try the herbal remedy Robert’s Formula.

5. Soothing baths two to five nights a week, as well as sitz baths, and alternating hot and cold water packs placed over the abdomen.

6. Aloe juice; wheatgrass juice; cabbage, papaya, and carrot juice. Avoid all citrus juices.

7. If you smoke, stop. In addition, learn how to effectively cope with and manage stress. Exercise regularly.

8. Replace aspirin or other NSAIDs with safer, more effective natural remedies.

9. Supplement with a multivitamin/multimineral formula and essential fatty acids, especial omega-3 oils.

10. Examine the possibility of withheld emotions as the cause of your symptoms and get support through emotional and physical expression, especially movement therapies such as Qi gong, Yoga or deeper expressive therapies, such as Total Integration release work.

Watch out for these 2 issues:

Pharmaceutical Drugs: The following drugs can all cause and exacerbate various gastrointestinal disorders, including colitis: Accutane, Alka-Seltzer Antacid and Alka-Seltzer Pain Reliever, Anturane, Genuine Bayer Aspirin, Bayer Plus Aspirin, Bayer Regular Strength Enteric Aspirin, Bufferin Analgesic Tablets and Caplets, Ceptaz, Clinoril, Cuprimine, Ecotrin Enteric Coated Aspirin, Feldene, Ilosone, Lamprene, Leukine for IV Infusion, Lopid, Marplan, Meclomen, Novantrone, Paraplatin, Piroxicam, Prokine I.V. Infusion, Retrovir, Rynatuss, Supprelin Injection, Suprax, Ticlid, Tolectin, Toradol IM Injection, Trecator-SC, Trilisate, and Voltaren.

Stress: Chronic and poorly managed stress has a direct effect on the gastrointestinal system, and elevated stress levels have long been linked by scientific research to a wide variety of GI disorders, including colitis, because of how stress results in elevated acid production and impairs overall digestive function.

Best of health to you

Q: Ulcerative colitis treatments?
I have ulcerative colitis in the last 20cm of the intestine (colon) and I’ve tried several different treatments including Asacol and salofalk drugs (pills, enemas etc), corticosteroids and azathioprine (Imuran), but it was no use, since the disease’s syptoms remain. So I would be grateful if someone who managed to control this illness could answer me and tell me in short what drugs he/she used and whether he/she followed a diet (and what kind of diet). I know that there is always the surgical solution but it is my last option.
As regarding the cortisone it was Medrol 16mg

A: a new drug infliximab an anti-inflammatory drug also used for treating crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis is now used for ulcerative colitis
The medication is administered intravenously, with an initial regimen of three doses of infliximab, followed by maintenance infusions every eight weeks. Nearly 70 percent of patients receiving the drug experienced clinical response and remission early in the trial, and nearly all had significant results after one year of therapy.

Q: My dog has a cancerous tumor – can anyone offer some advice.?
My 11 year old lab mix has a cancerous tumor of the anal gland. We were first alerted to her condition when she had an abscess and infection of the anal gland – otherwise she acted normal. After a round of antibiotics the vet was still feeling lumpy tissue after examining her. Blood work came back normal, but a biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma of the anal gland. Suggested treatments include radiation – five treatments for four weeks at a cost of $4,500.00. Mentioned side effects include chronic diarrhea, colitis and straining. Palliative radiation was also an option with one radiation treatment for 4 – 6 weeks at a cost of $1,700.00. I guess this would keep her more comfortable for awhile. Another option is to do nothing except keep her comfortable. Our vet was going to ask the specialist how much time the treatments would give my poor pup compared to doing nothing. Does anyone’s dog had this type of tumor? What did you do?

A: my husky mix was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor 5 years back, we brought him to our regular vet and were recommended similar treatments which we eventually rejected because of large amounts of discomfort it’ll cause to our dear boy.

our main aim was to make him feel comfortable instead of down in the dumps, we never thought of lengthening his life or to remove permanently the tumor and so we thought that conventional treatments worked against what we wanted and believed in.

i started to read up on holistic treatments and booked an appointment with a holistic vet in our area. the first step to holistic healing was to switch his diet from that of commercial pet food to a totally natural raw diet with organic vegetables and hormone/antibiotic free meat. this little change on it’s own showed almost instant results, his eyes were brighter, he seemed more enthusiastic about life on a whole.

then we were introduced into the vast array of holistic treatments available and how they work. no drugs were involved as they only aggravate the matter and cause discomfort. the vet brought us through the treatments that would work best for us and we made our final decision.

the whole aim was to improve his immuned system so they body can fight the cancerous cells on it’s own without having to introduce foreign toxins to kill the cancerous cells. it doesn’t give instant results thought, it was only after 6 months where we started to see the decrease in the number of cancerous cells but after a year he was as though the tumor was never present. He has been like that since that year and even if future tumors were to surface we know that he can deal with it.

so i hope that you’ll contact a holistic vet in your area and work towards healing that is natural and safe. stay away from radiation as it is extremely dangerous and risky

Q: Dieticians – Internists – Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet – too much white flour / corn syr?
I think many Americans are starving themselves because of their daily reliance on white flour for sustenance, whether rich or poor. Does white flour inhibit good digestion of other more protein rich foods? (Look at all the protruding bellies.) I’m looking at something that indicated that in a report as follows:

“Conditions listing Kwashiorkor as a symptom may also be potential underlying causes of Kwashiorkor. Our database lists the following as having Kwashiorkor as a symptom of that condition:
Alcoholism
Amphetamine abuse
Amyloidosis AL
Anorexia Nervosa
Blind loop syndrome
Boyd-Stearns syndrome
Brinton disease
Classic galactosemia
Cocaine fetopathy
Congenital short bowel
Congenital sucrose-isomaltose malabsorption
Cutaneous photosensitivity colitis, lethal
Cystic Fibrosis

Finnish nephrosis syndrome
Follicular hamartoma – alopecia – cystic fibrosis
Gastrointestinal amyloidosis
Hereditary amyloidosis
Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Intestinal epithelial dysplasia
Intractable diarrhea with enterocytes assembly abnormalities, congenital, familial
Juvenile tropical pancreatitis syndrome

Protein-calorie malnutrition: Causes and incidence
(Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition))
Both kwashiorkor (edematous PCM) and marasmus (nonedematous PCM) are common in underdeveloped countries and in areas in which dietary amino acid
content is insufficient to satisfy growth requirements. Kwashiorkor typically occurs at about age 1, after infants are weaned from breast milk to a protein-deficient diet of starchy gruels or sugar water, but it can develop at any time during the formative years. Marasmus affects infants ages 6 to 18 months as a result of breast-feeding failure, or a debilitating condition such as chronic diarrhea.
In industrialized countries, PCM may occur secondary to chronic metabolic disease that decreases protein and calorie intake or absorption, or trauma that increases protein and calorie requirements. In the United States, PCM is estimated to occur to some extent in 50% of elderly people in nursing homes. Those who aren’t allowed anything by mouth for an extended period are at high risk of developing PCM. Conditions that increase protein-calorie requirements include severe burns and injuries, systemic infections, and cancer (accounts for the largest group of hospitalized patients with PCM). Conditions that cause defective utilization of nutrients include malabsorption syndrome, short-bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s disease.

A: Interesting read and yes, you have a valid point there.
I believe when manufactures add or take products out to produce a longer shelf life, we become unwittingly victims.
I also will state that man’s desire to consume these products in large quantities also makes a statement to how well they care about their own bodies and therefore allowing them to become the blimps, encourage laziness and less outgoing as a person.
I find these chemicals are foreign to the human body and instead of helping ones digestion, actually does the opposite. It promotes build up and therefore a blockage to the body operating normally.
There is where the many problems of the body lies in wait for us. Some times quicker then we ever could realize.
It is sad that many of these traits are passed on during breast feeding and actual Development inside a mother’s womb. However i wonder if this wasn’t all a design by human engineering to cause a decrease in the human population or is it just a consequence of a “on Demand” society.
I learned a lot about nutritional values when i searched out about diets for myself. There are some products now that i will never eat again
Great question and deserving my further attention as well as others.
